st.christopher (all one word lower-case) has been making music for emerging artists in the Chicago-land area and beyond for several years.
His greatest strength has always been his versatility. Recording, producing and mixing music everything from gritty underground rap opuses , to slow churning R&B headboard breakers, to glossy club-oriented anthems. So after years of grinding behind the scenes st.christopher is producing a series of themed beat-tapes, each with a distinct artistic and creative focus.

The first of this series is The Black Nerd Beat Tape. And it's only fitting. st.christopher first fell in love with listening to old soul and rare-groove records way back in the day when he used to stay up late at night and the only thing playing on Black radio-stations was the Quiet-Storm. This is where the DJ's would talk in breathy laid-back voices and spin slow-jams and classic r&b and soul records. But, it wasn't long before he put two and two together and realized that many of his favorite rap records were based on the old groovy records that were only played when it was dark, and late at night and the house was quiet and chill.

Soon st.christopher began buying those old records himself and listening to them over and over. Comparing them with the songs released by his favorite rap groups and artists, and studying them closely to hear where the producer looped or chopped the song and how they put it all together. He then moved on to buying more obscure records, everything from psychedelic jazz-fusion, to low-key soul musicians who only ever released one album. And he would listen and think of ways to restructured these song and how they would sound with head nodding hip-hop drums . This is all before he even knew what an MPC was. So like I said it's only fitting that his first official beat tape be rooted in this sound.

There is a common thread between the tracks on The Black Nerd Beat Tape. And there is a common vibe and structure that helps them fit together as a cohesive unit. The tracks are a mix of brand new creations, dope beats that never found their place with an artist, or tracks that were started but remained on the back-burner and unfinished until recently. But they are all a part of the creative vision of producer who's voice and perspective are destined to loom large of the landscape of urban music in the coming future.
